Kyrgyzstan chooses future power
Local elections are beginning in Kyrgyzstan. These elections are combined with the referendum to amend the constitution.
Election of local councils’ deputies will be held in 450 localities. Many experts consider these elections as a "test of strength" before the presidential ones, which will be held in 2017. For the first time the parties not represented in parliament are going to participate in them, but these parties have a certain credibility among the local population. Moreover, Almazbek Atambayev stressed that all actions had to pass very open and transparent.
The transparency to the electoral process, in turn, will ensure the credibility to the referendum. The questions about constitutional amendments related to decreasing the role of President and increasing Prime Minister’s capacity, the government and parliament are going to be at the agenda of the referendum. However, despite the fact that the country's leadership explains their initiative to the development of the democracy, some experts see the desire of the current president to retain his power against the background of decreasing the level of popularity of the parliamentary parties.
