Italy blocked the anti-Russian sanctions

During the summit, the EU has decided not to extend the anti-Russian sanctions. Moreover, according to the authoritative American media, Italian prime minister Matteo Renzi, having arrived from Washington, pushed through this decision.

Matteo Renzi commented on the situation in the following way: «The difficult situation in Syria could be solved by additional sanctions on Russia».

Germany, France and Great Britain were proposing to expand the sanctions during the summit.
