BRICS countries made a joint statement: Illegal interference in the affairs of Syria is unacceptable

Representatives of Brazil, Russia, India and China made a joint statement on the situation in Syria. A meeting of special representatives of the BRICS states on the Middle East was held in Indian Visakhapatnam on April 12, 2017. According to the communiqué "The participants confirmed the firm support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria, the need for a peaceful resolution of the conflict by the Syrians themselves". The parties stressed that "any military intervention not sanctioned by the Security Council is incompatible with the UN Charter and is unacceptable".

In addition, the BRICS countries supported the cessation of hostilities in Yemen and spoke on other issues relating to the state of affairs in the Middle East.
