Public pressure behind Ceasefire

28.05.2021

11 days of Israeli aggression was widely condemned globally. People were protesting and demanding stoppage of killings and stood in solidarity with the people of Palestine around the globe against the Israeli acts of brutalities. However, some governments were supporting Israel and were advocating a justification for Israeli atrocities. But the public, irrespective of religion, race and ethnicity, stood against the killings of human beings, especially innocent children. Some of the rigid governments also have to bow down in front of growing public pressure and criticism.

Some partial media reported one-sided and projecting Israeli narrative only. Still, Gaza residents were filming each moment, each attack, and each killing by mobile phones and dissimination on social media. The live streaming was more effective to tell the public internationally the facts and ground realities in Gaza. Although Israeli jets damaged the buildings' housing media outlets to disrupt the dissimination of facts, yet social media has played a vital role. Although the social media was also controlled by Zionists and some of the sensitive posts on Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Instagram, etc, were blocked or removed yet, it has a deep impact in educating the masses on the ground facts in Gaza.

The Joe-Bidden Administration blocked the UNSC statement three times but could not bear the public pressure, and finally asked PM Netanyahu to stop agressinon immediately. The $3.8bn of military aid to Israel that was used to demolish Palestinian homes, imprison Palestinian children, and displace Palestinian families, has been criticized by politicians. Several Democratic members of the House of Representatives have spoken out against the United States military support for Israel and called for the protection of Palestinians' rights, in contrast to other Democrats and Republicans who expressed their full support for Israel during the ongoing escalation in the Gaza Strip.

Russian foreign minister met Secretary of Sate Mr. Blinken, and after their meeting, the Joe Biden Administration changed mind altogether, and despite supporting the apartheid and racist government of Natanyahu, he asked him to stop the killings of innocent people immediately.

However, 11 days of Israeli aggression has devastated Gaza, almost 769 housing and commercial units have been rendered uninhabitable, at least 1,042 units in some 258 buildings destroyed, and another 14,538 units that have suffered minor damage. More than 80,000 people have lost their homes or had their homes seriously or partially damaged.

Palestinian officials said it would cost some $100m to rebuild the damage to industry, power, and agriculture in the already impoverished territory struggling under a devastating 14-year blockade. The United Nations said approximately 800,000 people in Gaza do not have regular access to clean piped water, as nearly 50 percent of the water network was damaged in the bombing. Schools and hospitals were targeted deliberately. The Infrasture was damaged severely, keeping people away from electricity and water supply.

Tens of thousands of Palestinians were forced to take shelter in United Nations-run schools to escape the Israeli bombardment. For many families who began returning to their homes after the Ceasefire came into effect in the early hours of Friday, there was little or nothing left of their homes.

Out of 250 causalities, around 70 were innocent children. The number of injuries is outnumbered, and some of them are very serious and may cause lifetime disabilities. The trauma and pschy impact is immeasurable and may never recover completely. However, on the Israeli side, only one soldier and 11 civilians were killed too.

It is time to reconstruct Gaza; Egypt has allocated $500M to rebuild the Gaza Strip after Israeli aggression, the US has also pledged to reconstruct Gaza. Many other nations will also share their part of moral obligation too.

However, it is the responsibility of Israel to reconstruct and ensure that it will not happen in the future. It is recommended that the UN should intervene and reach a treaty on the same line as Germany and Japan, who initiated world wars and were forced to the signed treaty for war crimes and war compensations. Israel must be held responsible for war crimes, and war compensation must be imposed on Israel. Israel must be put under sanction to cap its defense over-ambitions too. Israel is spending over its defense and creating an imbalance of military power in the region, creating a weapons race and creating a direct threat to regional peace and stability. The UN must play its role and maintain permanent peace and stability in the whole middle-east.

It is hoped that public pressure may be exerted to force Israel to pay for war crimes and war compensation. Isreal must be put under monitoring to limit its defense capabilities just enough to self-defense and avoid its aggressive capabilities to repeat similar acts in the future.
