Let us think about the fall of Assad's regime
The 'moderate rebels' create a Wahhabi state in western and central Syria with the support of the West and Turkey. Thousands of people (Christians, Druze, secular, Alawites, Sunnis and Shiites) are being killed for religious or political reasons. Hundreds of thousands of others are fleeing. And of course to Europe. In Syria, the Kurds, the Wahhabis and the non-Wahhabis (the so-called FSA hodgepodge) are clashing with each other. Suddenly, the chaos in Syria becomes a major problem for the West.
Then there are Turkey's annexation plans for northern Syria and incipient attacks by pro-Turkish factions towards Kurdish-controlled Manbij.
The war in Syria is far from over. Syria is entering a very dark period. The worst is yet to come. We have seen this before in Libya and in Iraq.
It was not to be expected otherwise. The circumstances in Syria in recent years alone and the lack of will to liberate the occupied territories spoke volumes. The Syrian army did not defend the country against the jihadists and many Syrian soldiers throughout the country even joined them. And Iran withdrew its top proxy units and IRGC specialists 2 days ago. This made Assad politically powerless.
What is better for Syria is impossible to say at this moment. Let us first wait and see how things develop before making further comments.
