Identity genocide in Montenegro
Throughout history, Montenegro was a Serbian state, inhabited by Serbs. That is best evidenced by historical sources, concerning the territory of today’s Montenegro.
The Medieval state of Duklja was mostly inhabited by Serbs, which directly and indirectly is confirmed by a number of documents and chronicles from the 9th through the 13th century.
The Frankish chronicler Einhard in his Annals (Chronicle of Franconia, Einhard Yearbook, lat. Annales regni Francorum) from the first half of the 9th century, describing the uprising of the Pannonian prince Ljudevit (818-823), mentions his escape to Serbs.
This source is important for the ethnogenesis of Duklja, since it is now the oldest and first chronicle that mentions the names of the tribes of the Slovenian territory in the Roman province of Dalmatia, part of which was the area on which it was made Sclavinia Duklja. From here, it is clearly evident that the Serbs are the only Slovenian tribe that inhabits what is referred to as Dalmatia. It is believed that Vojislav was born at the end of the century, and that around 1019 he took power in Duklja as a Byzantine vassal, then led two rebellions, second in 1038 year – which is recorded by John Skylitzes:
"... Stefan Vojislav, archon of Serbs, that not long ago escaped from Constantinople and took the land of Serbs expelling from there Theophilus Erotica."
Bozidar Vukovic of Podgorica lived and printed books in Venice in the first half of the 16th century. He was also active in the Orthodox Church commune and in the brotherhood of “St. George, the Greek”, constituted by the Orthodox Greeks and Serbs. Bozidar Vukovic, as a prominent person, was the president of this commune. In the Brotherhood register, when paying the membership fee, he was registered as "Bozidar of Veche, the Serb", and the same description was also found in all of the decisions that were passed by the Brotherhood under his presidency.
Bishop Danilo (1670-1735), the founder of the Petrovic dynasty, left a note reading: "Danil, the Cetinje bishop Njegos, the prince of the Serbian land, hereby purchased this sacred Gospel with gold."
In 1702, a metropolitan Avramije of Russia sent a book as a gift "...to the monastery of Savina located in the Serbian country.
Bishop Vasilije Petrovic (1709-1766) always signed himself: "Serene metropolitan of Montenegro, Skenderia, the Littoral and of the Serbian throne.”
In 1788, Ivan Radonjic, the governor of Montenegro, wrote to the Russian Empress Catarrhina II stating:” All of us, Serbs Montenegrins, plead for your Imperial mercy…
In 1789 he wrote for the second time to the Empress of Russia: “Now, all of us Serbs from Montenegro, Hercegovina, Banjani, Drobnjaci, Kuci, Piperi, Bjelopavlici, Zeta, Klimenti, Vasojevici, Bratonozici, Pec, Kosovo, Prizren, Arbania, Macedonia belong to your Excellency and pray that you, as our kind mother, send over Prince Sofronije Jugovic. Apart from the historical documents mentioned above for illustration purposes, the Serbian ethnic consciousness of the Montenegrins is also strengthened by some objects from the Montenegrin popular culture that originated in "the minds of the people". These are, among other objects, the Montenegrin cap and the Montenegrin ceremonial costume. In addition to this are the flag, the coat of arms, and the national anthem.
The Montenegrin man’s cap was introduced by the bishop and ruler Petar II Petrovic Njegos when he gave it: as a gift to some of the clan leaders to wear it as the mark of their Serbian identity. It carries a historical message. The flat portion of the cap is made of red fabric and it has a black wrapper around it. Back in 1903, Andrija Jovicevic noted down the symbolic meaning of the cap: the black wrapper expresses the mourning over the Serbian disaster at Kosovo; the golden unbound part of the cap (at the forehead) expresses the doomed Serbs who shed blood and are still shedding it; the portion bound by the golden braid expresses Montenegro, the hearth of the Serbian freedom which soaked in the blood of its people and of their enemies, but still stands upright; the small star…(within the braid) expresses the sun that shines upon and warms the cold hearts of the dead brothers. The eyelets with the cross within the braid (since the cap with the sun symbol was worn only by the ruler) designate Montenegro, the land of the free, under the rule of bishops, the dynasty of the homeland.
The national anthem of Montenegro which was chosen by the people is an ode to the Serbian nationality. The anthem of the Montenegrin state, the song “There, There…” was written by King Nickolas. It would be blasphemy not to accept this song as the identification of the Montenegrin state in the past epochs. It is about the capital of Prizren, Dushan’s empire grins guarding the Serbian ethnic being, over the span of several centuries. This is just part of the historical sources that confirms the historical foundation of Serbs in Montenegro.
However, in Djukanoc’s Montenegro, Serbs are second class citizens. According to the census of 2003 year 63.49% of the population said that they speak Serbian, but Djukanovic regime decided in 2004 to rename the Serbian language. Twenty-eight professors were dismissed from their jobs because they defended the Serbian language.
“ We have not agreed to a lie. Although we are left without bread, we did not lose heart and soul. For us it was not a loss but a divine blessing. Thank God for giving us the strength to overcome temptation.“
Attacks on the Serbian Orthodox Church are constant. Serbian priests have been expelled and there are ongoing attempts at confiscation of the Serbian Orthodox Church property. All in order that the non-canonical Montenegrin Orthodox Church becomes the only Orthodox Church in Montenegro. On her forehead is Miras Dedeic. In a letter sent on April 2nd, 2000 to the then president of Montenegro Milo Djukanovic, the Patriarch of Constantinople Bartholomew among other things he wrote:
“With joy we are speak to your dear and respected Excellency by this our prayer letter. For You and your people we want the blessing of almighty God. We remind You, however, on a topic which, we think, that You will give importance because it's about a person who presents himself as Bishop of Eastern Orthodox Church, and his name is Miras Dedeic, purported leader (completely unknown to everyone in the Orthodox Church) of an independent Orthodox Church in Montenegro, which is otherwise a few years ago defrocked by our Ecumenical Patriarchate and returned to the order of the laity. In addition, he is still out of every law presents itself as a clergyman and in that way disturbs Orthodox people in Montenegro, where the canonical Orthodox Bishop of all Orthodox Churches is the only recognized Metropolitan bishop of Montenegro and the Littoral Amfilohije.”
But for Djukanovic and his crew, truth is not important. They meticulously carry out their tasks. And if the Serbs officially make up a third of the population in Montenegro, in the administration there are only 7% Serbs. “In today’s Montenegro is the most difficult to be Serb”- this statement is pronounced by an Albanian from Montenegro and deputy Dritan Abazovic, who is now the president of the Montenegrin opposition party URA. Serbs in Montenegro are one of the most endangered ethnic groups in Europe. The Montenegrin Government performs a brutal assimilation. The media that informs about Serbs in Montenegro are under constant police and financial pressure. Serbs in Montenegro are punished even for showing their ethnic symbols. Last year the Montenegrin Ministry of Education asked that the high school students in a small town near capital Podgorica be punished, because they observed the NATO aggression against Serbia and Montenegro. The reason why the Serbs officially make less than 50% of the population of Montenegro is fear. Because if on the census they declare themselves as Serbs, they will not be able to get a job, or will get it with much difficulty. Milo Djukanovic has said publicly that his goal for Montenegro is to change its cultural – civilizational circle. On this statement every analyst who deals with the situation in Montenegro should pay attention. With this statement Djukanovic revealed his true intentions as well as those who hold him in power. This statement is a euphemism for identity genocide against Serbs in Montenegro. The main goal of him and particularly of his chiefs from Washington is that Montenegro become an anti Serbian and anti Russian state. Under the regime of Milo Djukanovic and his Democratic Party of Socialists, they began an open revision of official history.
Without a doubt, the present Montenegro created under Djukanovic's regime on May 21st 2006, is the antipode of the historical Montenegro.
