Elections in Italy: the perspectives and general prognosis

01.03.2018

The excluisve interview of geopolitica.ru with the president of cultural association "Lombardia Russia" Gianluca Savoini

- In your opinion, what is the the main idea behind these elections? Why are they important?

First of all, after 5 years of an Italian prime minister whose election was decided on by Brussels and by strong financial powers, we will finally be able to vote. It is therefore a matter of making democracy work. Furthermore, two different "Weltanschauungen" collide. On the one hand there is the left-wing block: pro-immigrants, pro-gay marriage globalists, anti-sovereigntists, enemies of Russia. On the other side there is the center-right, not completely agreeing on everything, but certainly settled on the need to stop the invasion of immigrants, to defend the traditional family and Christian civilization, to have good relations with Russia, and to build up to a multipolar world, they are sovereigntists. This position is mainly represented by Lega.

- What are the common items of 3 parties in the coalition - Forza Italia – Lega - Fratelli d'Italia? Can they win?

I have enunciated the common points of the three parties before. It is certain that this coalition will win the elections next Sunday, but it will be important to see by what margin. If there is a strong majority, then a center-right government will be born. If Lega will be the strongest party of the alliance, its leader Matteo Salvini will become prime minister. If it is not possible to have a stable government, then it will be good to immediately return to the vote. But in this case the risk is that the establishment will try to form a Grand Coalition, as it did in Germany. And this would be a disaster.

- What do you think about the positions of Five Star Movement?

I believe that they only represent a protest vote against the party system. No one understands well what their political line is, and some rumors say that they could support a government with the PD of Renzi, to stop a center-right victory. But their voters want a big political change and would not accept such a decision. On March 5, a very special period will begin for Italian politics.

- What are the concerns of the Italian people today, what do they want to change?

Without true sovereignty, true democracy cannot exist. Italy has the "European bond", so all the most important laws must be approved not by the Italian parliament, but by the EU. If Brussels does not like a law, it cannot be passed in the Italian Parliament and therefore cannot be promulgated. A truly national government should ask for the removal of the "European bond". Germany, for example, does not have this rule. Thus, the Italian government can really try to solve the serious problems that affect citizens: unemployment, widespread crime, corruption, ever-increasing poverty, the protection of the weakest sections of the Italian population, illegal immigration. People want politics to take care of them and not the stock exchange and the big bankers.

- On the problem of migrants: is it possible to solve it today in Europe? Some of the sceptics say that “it is too late”, but maybe Italy could become a good example for other pro-migrant countries like Germany? (Italy received 119,000 migrants by sea last year)

The numbers given by the government are false. The irregular immigrants who entered Italy are many more and they try to hide this truth. The nations that border Italy have closed their borders and no economic immigrants enter. Even French President Macron said stop! Only Italy must let itself be invaded and not protest? Do they want racism and political extremism to grow fast in Italy? Immigration can and must be stopped. We must prevent criminal traffickers from organizing trips to the sea. Italy have to make agreements with African countries and new government have to say clearly  that Italy will no longer accept migrants. There is no right to immigration. No country can accept immigrants without limits. And we must proceed to send away all the immigrants without permission that they are now in Italy.

- What are the arguments for Italexit? Does the country need it?

Italexit is not a current subject. No big party talks about this. Instead we need to change the ideological approach of the EU. Hungary and Austria are countries that are criticizing some EU policies from within. If Italy (an EU founding member) starts to speak clearly with Brussels, then many things will change and the EU will have to either adapt or fall.
