Trump’s Unexpected Visit

31.08.2016

Donald Trump has gone on an official visit to Mexico. This unexpected visit by Trump, whom liberal media have repeatedly accused of racism against Latinos, has caused quite a stir in the United States.

Mexican invitation

Recently, the president of this Latin American country, Enrique Peña Nieto, invited US presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump to visit Mexico. Clinton did not agree, but Trump accepted the invitation of the Latin American leader. It is reported that the meeting itself will be confidential. After the meeting, Trump plans to present his electoral program on combatting migration in Arizona. The majority of foreign migrants to the United States are Mexicans.

The point of the meeting

The Mexican President’s invitation suggests that Trump is perceived as a real contender for the post of US President and shows that the Mexican leadership would like to negotiate with him on top issues in bilateral relations. The Republican candidate stands for the restriction of migration, the expulsion of illegal immigrants, and the construction of a wall on the US-Mexico border to protect against illegal immigrants. In addition, he calls for the revision of NAFTA, or North American Free Trade Zone Agreement, due to which many American manufacturers have moved to Mexico. In the US, this has led to plant closures and job losses. Conversely, Mexico has received investments. Mexicans now fear the opposite effect in the case of a Trump victory.

Forecast

It is unlikely that Trump will fundamentally change his position on migration. However, the meeting with the Mexican President will allow him to demonstrate that he is able to directly discuss the most pressing issues with leaders. At the same time, Clinton's refusal to visit will add points to the theory that she is being progressively afflicted by some kind of disease.
