Talks between Lavrov and Kerry

18.11.2016

During the ministerial summit of APEC held in Peru, talks between US Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov . They were discussing a very wide range of issues, including the situation in Syria, Ukraine, Yemen and the US.

The main issues

The main focus was, of course, on the Syrian issue. According to the Deputy Foreign Minister for the Middle East region, Mikhail Bogdanov, the foreign ministers discussed "the whole complex of issues connecting with Syria. This is the fight against terrorism, humanitarian issues and, of course, political issues."

US Position

The position of Washington, however will not been changed in the near future; before the inauguration of Donald Trump, it will not change at all. President Barack Obama emphasized this point during the talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Moreover; as the Obama administration winds down, it's trying by all means to prevent the defeat of terrorists by introducing new sanctions and developing all kinds of "comprehensive" proposals. However, as the liberation of Aleppo becomes increasingly probable, Syria's victory over terrorism will come soon after.

The situation in Syria

After Trump’s victory, Syrian terrorists immediately demanded a truce of course, with the strategy being to regroup and rest. However, it is not going to happen, just because some pseudo-Syrian human rights organization located in London was thrown "in the fight".

With the beginning of Russia's large-scale operation, the terrorists are not only getting one defeat after another, but they understand it, so they often go to extreme measures. So, yesterday the last attack was organized, in which 25 people were killed, most of whom were opponents of Bashar al-Assad.

Obviously, this is done in order to pick up in the "armed opposition" (terrorists), the spirit of vengeance, to call once again for jihad, and at the same time, to blacken the Syrian government and its allies in the eyes of the world community.
