Sixth Plenum of the CPC Central Committee 18th convocation started in Beijing

24.10.2016

This session focussed on issues of intra-party governance in addition to the report on the previous activities on the agenda.

Control and order, Chinese style

It is already known that provisions on domestic governance, introduced in 2003, are considered to be unsatisfactory. Most likely this is due to major corruption scandals in which high-ranking party functionaries were implicated.

Now the party leadership of China will develop an adaptive approach designed to improve the interaction of various party organs and reporting.

It is obvious that corruption elements penetrated into Chinese consciousness, associated with Western influence. Since by its nature public administration in China is based on Confucian philosophy and Taoism, where there is no place for the logic of enrichment that is typical of Europe and the United States.

The reaction of "the world community"

Since China has the death penalty including for corruption, most likely the tightening of the rules of conduct of party workers will cause criticism from the West. Various human rights organizations, serving the interests of Washington and Brussels, will probably condemn the new approach of the Chinese authorities.

However, given the economic power of China, it is unlikely that it will come to an open confrontation and sanctions.
