Russia and Japan on the way to a peace treaty

22.06.2016

Another round of talks on a peace treaty between Russia and Japan started in Tokyo. Both sides expressed their readiness for constructive dialogue, since the signing of the agreement is of common interest.

Necessary peace

The peace treaty between Russia and Japan is necessary first of all to strengthen the cooperation between the two countries and bring it to a new level. Since the end of World War II, Japan has been occupied by US troops, therefore such an agreement contradicts the interests of Washington.

Jealous Washington

US is a major source of provocations, and most of them are devoted to the Kuriles. This issue is the most acute in the Russian-Japanese relations. The Japanese press under the influence of Washington is regularly fueling hysteria on this issue. At the same time, Tokyo's officials who are opposed to the idea of getting the islands immediately, are often harassed, and may even be imprisoned.

Prospects for cooperation

Japan and Russia need each other for a strategic partnership in the Far East. Tokyo could provide its technology necessary for the development of Siberia, and for that they would get much-needed energy for Japan. At the same time, cooperation with Japan on issues of development of Siberia bears no threat to Russia's national security, as the Japanese do not have a high birth rate and migration activity.
