End of ISIS: next stop is Deir ez-Zor

The capture of Palmyra by Syrian government troops is still being discussed in the media, but the military has begun a new phase of the campaign to liberate the country from terrorists. The next important task is to lift the siege of the radical groups that have blocked the city of Deir ez-Zor.

Power of momentum

The liberation of Palmyra can be called a turning point in the war. The city is located in the center of the country, and the vector of attack of the government forces is directed eastwards into the desert. The closest point in this direction is the city of Deir ez-Zor, which is besieged by ISIS militants.

Important point

Deir ez-Zor is the administrative center of northeastern Syria. After the discovery of light oil deposits it became the center of the oil industry in the country. Currently, the terrorist group ISIS besieges Deir ez-Zor. The civilians and the garrison are only supported in the form of humanitarian aid delivered by parachute from the air.

UN meeting on Syria

A meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation in Syria is scheduled for March 30th. One of the main topics on the agenda will be the humanitarian situation in the country. Solving problems of this kind depends on the success of the government forces and their allies.
