The US president visited the Spanish Rota naval base on which the European missile defense elements are deployed. Rota is the main base of the Spanish Navy, in which the central headquarters of the Spanish Navy is situated, as well as one of operational headquarters of 6th US Navy fleet. On the day of Obama's visit there were two demonstrations - one in support of the US military presence at the base and one against the fact that the base is part of a European missile defense system.
Obama also met with the political elites of Spain. It is important to note that, in addition to the Socialist Party, he also met with the right Ciudadanos and left Podemos. Despite the opposing political positions, both parties are funded by Atlanticist foundations and are happy to meet with the US president. This indicates the total incapacity of the Spanish political elites and the lack of even basic sovereignty.
Barack Obama said that he could not imagine "a better ally than Spain." Probably, the US President pointed to Madrid's readiness to provide its territory for military bases and full accountability of national elites to international financial groups.
