Sweden opens the door for NATO

Loss of neutrality

The Scandinavian country will now grant access to military exercises and participate in the event of a war in the region. Legally, this means that Sweden has ceased to be a neutral country. Previously, when Finland also signed a similar agreement, joint exercises with NATO were carried out immediately and offensive weapons were used in the exercises which violated the Paris Peace Accords of 1947.

The role of the United States

Washington played a very visible role in these developments. Although the majority of the citizens of these countries are against joining NATO, pro-American politicians have found loopholes in the law for the alliance to be accepted. Recently, the Nordic countries’ foreign ministers visited the White House to meet with President Barack Obama, where they expressed a desire to strengthen ties with the United States.

Surrounding Russia

Washington is using the old “Anaconda” strategy, which means surrounding the enemy with military bases and blocking strategic access points on land and sea. The Swedish Defense Minister has also used anti-Russian rhetoric even though the country has no common land-border with Russia. The American expert press has constantly escalated hysteria over future threats posed by Russia in the Baltic Sea. In Sweden itself several incidents have occurred in which Russia was blamed, such as this month when the damage of two telecommunication nodes was deemed Russian sabotage. Although the police denied foreign involvement in the incident, the entire liberal press discussed the possibility of Russian sabotage. In 2015 as well, the Swedish Navy unsuccessfully hunted for Russian submarines in its territorial waters.
