The meeting at the ambassadorial level will be held for the first time since 2014, when all types of cooperation between the two sides was suspended. The last time the NATO-Russia Council met was in June 2014, and in March 2015 the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council meeting with participation of the Russian side took place.
This format was created in May 2002 and the Chairperson is the Secretary General of NATO, which are already evident discrimination and an obvious unequal position in relation to Russia. Bias is also evident in the tone of the statement of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg with regards to this summit, which was released on April 8th.
In reality, NATO is interested in the management of the behavior of the Russian leadership for their own interests. Any format of cooperation with NATO obviously implies the involvement of other countries into the orbit of influence of Brussels and the gradual involvement in various programs that aim to reduce military power and sovereignty. This can take place under the auspices of the need for collective defense and a response to new threats, such as terrorism. In fact, the terrorist attacks in France and Belgium have shown the vulnerability of the collective security system of Western Europe. But NATO continues to be a vestige of the Cold War leaded by the US administration, which is directed against Russia.
Although NATO is constantly declaring their peaceful intentions, the facts tell a different story. Just look at the recent actions of the alliance.
In early April, NATO warships, in cooperation with the Georgian Coast Guard, conducted exercises off the coast of Georgia.
On April 14th, NATO Deputy Secretary General Alexander Vershbow visited Kyiv, where he announced further support for the current regime in Ukraine on the part of the alliance.
On April 19th-20th, the Ramstein Alloy exercises took place, with the participation of the Air Force at the Amari airbase in Estonia; Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia were covered by the exercise. According to the working concept of NATO, Latvia will become the new target of "Russian aggression", as there are large numbers of Russians living there. In fact, the Russian-speaking population of Latvia, from the 90’s, was subjected to political discrimination, as many people in this country do not have the status of a citizen.
In July, the NATO summit will be held in Warsaw, where members of the Alliance will have to align their strategy with regards to Russia. Also, major military exercises titled "Anakonda-2016” will be held in June in Poland, where about 30,000 soldiers from 22 countries will take part. In Poland, military forces and equipment from the United States has already started arriving. In parallel to these maneuvers will be "Saber Strike", which will be dealing with the transfer of military equipment and personnel through Germany and Poland to the Baltic States, Romania, and Bulgaria.
