47 people executed in Saudi Arabia

Iran's reaction
On January 2nd dozens of people attacked the Saudi embassy in Tehran, and used Molotov's cocktails to set fire to the building. Riots also took place in Mashhad, where the Consulate of Saudi Arabia is. The government officially condemned the action, although it is reported that in fact they share the same view as the rioters. Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei said that for Saudi Arabia, retribution is inevitable .
 
Iran and Saudi Arabia also exchanged notes of protest. After that 3 of Jan. Saudi Arabia stopped diplomatic relations with Iran and evacuated own personal from there.
 
In Tehran, the name of the street where Saudi embassy is located has been changed to "Sheikh Nimr Street".
Other countries
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said through a spokesman that he was displeased with the sentence, and the trial of al-Nimr raises many questions from the perspective of justice.
 
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini said that the "special case of Sheikh Nimrah al-Nimr raises serious concerns with regard to freedom of expression and respect for fundamental civil and political rights, which should be guaranteed in all cases, including in the fight against terrorism. This case has the potential to further foment tensions which already brings so much harm to the entire region."
 
The US urged Riyadh to reduce sectarian tensions and restore order in manner in line with the observance of human rights.
 
Iraq has said it is not seeking to restore diplomatic relations with Saudi Arabia, and promised a speedy end to the regime of the royal family of that country.
